Question:
Hi,
I'm interested on acquiring an Outer Root Sheath (ORS) cell line,
however I can't understand why you say these cells have mesenchymal
morphology and stain against CD105. These are markers of mesenchymal
cells but Outer Root Sheath (ORS) cells are epithelial cells! They
should not stain for markers of mesenchymal cells.
The mesenchymal cells present in the hair follicle are dermal papilla
and dermal sheath cells, not ORS cells! ORS are extremely different
cells, they have to interact with mesenchymal cells, but they have a
very different origin and function in the hair follicle.
I want to buy a cell line that represents this. If you say your cell
line stains for mesenchymal markers, your characterization of the cell
line tells me that probably it is not a pure cell line and that you must
certainly have a mixture of ORS cells and mesenchymal cells, like
dermal sheath cells, since these mesenchymal cells surround ORS cells in
the hair follicle
That assumption is also present when you say the optimal medium is a
mesenchymal stem cell medium. Most certainly a mesenchymal stem cell
medium is not the optimal medium to culture epithelial cells.
I need a pure cell line of ORS cell to compare to another epithelial
population I have, otherwise I would be spending money in a wrong
comparison because I would be using a cell line with a heterogeneous
population of epithelial and mesenchymal cells.
Please is there anyone that can give a clear answer to these questions?
Someone directly involved in the isolation process of this cell line? It
would be really important.
I only have until next Tuesday to find and buy the cell line I need
because after that the University financial department will prevent me
from doing orders until next February.
I would really appreciate your help.
Best regards,
Carla Abreu

Hi Carla,
These cells are not a cell line, they are a mixed population of
primary cells isolated directly from the outer root sheath of the hair
follicle and cryopreserved at passage 0. I have attached the product
sheet for these cells which describes them in greater detail. Please let
me know if you have additional questions about these cells after
reviewing the product sheet.
Thanks & Regards,
